Guwahati, January 21, 2019:

State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was shown ‘black flags’ by members of Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and 70 other organizations on Monday at Kalomoni in Baihata Chariali of Assam.

The police apprehended two protestors, namely Bhabesh Deka of AJYCP and Gagan Kalita of KMSS.

It may be mentioned that in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, BJP bigwigs such as CM Sarbananda Sonowal, MP Pradan Baruah and state BJP President Ranjit Kumar Das have also been shown black flags in the last few days.

Silchar Constituency Lok Sabha representative Sushmita Dev was also not far behind in facing the wrath of the people as she was shown black flags yesterday in Assam’s Cachar district.

The people of Assam are leaving no stone unturned to protest against the Bill giving out a clear message to the government in power that the Bill will not pass. A body comprising of organizations that include AASU, KMSS, AJYCP, and many others have moved onto the streets and tried their best to oppose the Bill. These protests show the frustration of the people over CM Sonowal’s stand-in regards to the Bill.

Meanwhile, many people of Assam are demanding the CM to take a stand against the Bill like his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma who has categorically opposed it and led a delegation of to Delhi to hold talks with the BJP high command to express concerns over the Bill.
