Assam govt to focus on sensitive flood and erosion affected areas first: Pijush Hazarika

GUWAHATI: Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika has chaired a meeting with Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Dhemaji MLA Ranoj Pegu and officials of the Water Resources Department of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Majuli to discuss projects to start in those districts.

Pijush Hazarika, who visited Dhemaji district twice last week, has promised its people to control the flood situation there as well as to work on erosion.

Hazarika had taken stock of the situation near Jiadhal and Gai rivers already and in meeting today Pijush Hazarika discussed embankment construction, dredging and erosion control on the Jiadhal river.

For the Jiadhal project to be completed with a cost of Rs 50 crore.

Along with the Jiadhal river, embankment construction work in various parts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Majuli will be kick-started from the month of November-December this year.

Hazarika also informed that the government will only focus on very sensitive areas affected by flood and erosion this time.
