Tali, September 19, 2019:

The Bailey bridge over the Kumey river at Kuwa in Tali circle of Kra Daadi district collapsed on Tuesday morning. The bridge was the only lifeline for the people of Tali, as it connects to Yangte circle in the same district.

According to reports, the bridge collapsed after a huge rock struck the structure of the bridge. It was followed by a massive landslide near the bridge due to heavy downpour.

Speaking to Inside Northeast, ADC, Biaro Sorum said that he, along with the local MLA Jikke Tako and PWD Engineers, visited the site to find out the exact cause of the incident.

Sorum added, “The Kuwa River is passing through the district and after the PWD department constructed the bridge, it was being used by the people. The main rope of the suspension bridge was hit by a huge rock after the landslide and it subsequently collapsed. The entire bridge collapsed and fell into the river. We have already intimidated the government regarding the apprehensions.”

“As of now, there is no food shortage but we are expecting it in the upcoming days if the situation stays the same. We have also sought sortie service or food drop service through AN 32 to meet the requirements,” he further added.

The bridge was reportedly constructed at a cost of Rs 14 crore by the PWD.

Tali is the only assembly constituency in the state which is yet to be connected by road and does not have any alternative road connection.
