Guwahati, August 31, 2019:

Ex-AIUDF MLA Ataur Rahman Mazarbhuyan has been excluded from the final NRC draft published today. His name is among the 19 lakh plus people whose names have been excluded from the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) published earlier todau.

Mazarbhuyan was elected from the Katigorah constituency. He was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly election in 2006 and 2011.

Earlier, he had held numerous positions in the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, All India Milli Council. Recently, Mazarbhuyan joined the Congress Party.

The final NRC is out today leaving people in a confused state. Exclusion of the ex-MLA has raised serious concerns on the entire process of NRC.

The final NRC has included a total of 3,11,21,004 persons, leaving out 19,06,657 persons, including those who did not submit their claims.

NRC State Coordinator, Prateek Hajela said that those not satisfied with the outcome can file appeals before the Foreigners’ Tribunals.

It may be mentioned here that the NRC authority has declared that the non-inclusion of a person’s name in the NRC does not amount to his/her being declared a foreigner.

Moreover, every individual kept out of the final NRC can appeal to the Foreigners’ Tribunal (FT). The time limit for filing appeals on FTs has been increased from 60-120 days.
