Guwahati, May 31, 2019:

Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday slammed the state government over the declaration of the Indian Army Captain Mohammed Sanaullah as a foreigner and sent to the detention camp.

Addressing the media, Tarun Gogoi said, “It is very unfortunate that the Indian Army Captain, Mohammed Sanaullah who has served the nation for three decades, fought the Kargil war and is presently working at the Assam Police has been sent to the detention camp. The complainant, who had filed the objection against him to be a labourer, must be immediately arrested. Despite knowing the fact that Sanaullah has been a part of the Kargil war, the government has not released him, Gogoi alleged.

While speaking on the campaign to change the mother tongue from Assamese to Bengali by a group of people in the upcoming census, Gogoi said, “If we allow the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, then there will be no demarcation of any state as all will get citizenship. The people will speak whatever the language they are comfortable with. Then how will the state language be sustained.”

Meanwhile, the former CM also said that MP Abdul Khaleque speaks in Assamese better than him and he can’t believe Khaleque would have said of changing the language. “If he does so, I will be first to oppose it. If he is saying of changing into “Miya” language, it won’t be accepted in public, maybe it will be used within the fourwalls of a room. We should view this in a broader term because we have so many tribes in the state with so many languages.”

Further, Gogoi criticized that Modi is always seen with the Assamese Gamucha, but he did not pay any respect to it. Modi could have included more ministers from the state in the council of ministers of the newly formed government, he added.
