Former Assam Minister Rupon Sing Ronghang Passes Away at 71

Diphu, November 19, 2019:

Former Minister of Assam, Rupon Sing Ronghang, breathed his last at around 11:30 pm at the Diphu Civil hospital on Sunday.

Rupon sing Ronghang had been suffering from serious diseases, and he was admitted to the Diphu civil hospital for treatment.

After he had passed away, his body of was brought to his native village at Bhoksong where his last rites would be performed. He was 71 years when he breathed his last. Ronghang was born in 1948 in a small village at Harlak, near Bhoksong in West Karbi Anglong District.

Ronghang was the Eldest son of Khoyasing Ronghang and Kaphui Teronpi and acquired his education from Shillong and took his M. Sc degree from GU.

An erudite scholar, Ronghang was the first amongst the Karbi community who was able to earn an M.Sc degree and also studied LLB and cracked the UPSC examination.

Later, he resigned from his Government service and joined the social organisation KANCHASDCOM as its President.

In the year 1999, Ronghang joined the Indian National Congress Party in Karbi Anglong. In the year 2001 He contested from 20 no. Baithalangso  LA constituency and was elected by a huge number of votes. He then served the state of Assam as an education minister, in the year 2003.

Condoling his demise via Twitter, Karbi Anglong CEM Tuliram Ronghang wrote, "My condolences to the bereaved family of Lt. Ruponsing Ronghang, ex- Minister, who passed away today. He had been an influential leader of his time."
