Former FIFA referee Nagendranath Barman passes away at 88

GUWAHATI: Former sports official and first-ever Assamese sports writer Nagendranath Barman passed away at his residence here around 5.30 am on Thursday.

Barman left for heavenly abode at the age of 88.

Family sources said his last rites will be performed on Friday.

His literary works include writings on football, volleyball, badminton, basketball, carom etc.

Barman was a FIFA referee as well as a volleyball national referee.  Along with it, he was also a former president of Hatigarh Sports Complex here.

A director of agro-processing unit NIVAZ, here, Barman had retired as a senior official in Guwahati Municipal Corporation.

Barman, who was a life member of Guwahati Sports Association and Gauhati Town Club, was also associated with other clubs such as Maharana Athletic Club, Hindu Muslim Club etc and various socio-cultural organisations such as Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan et al.
