Founder of Dibrugarh University’s Commerce Dept Dr. ARM Rahman Passes Away at 71

Guwahati, September 19, 2019:

Founder of Dibrugarh University’s Commerce Department, ARM Rahman, breathed his last today.

The Educationist had also held the post of Director of Open and Distance Learning Centre of Dibrugarh University.

Professor Sarat Sarma, a close associate of Rahman, said, “Dr. Rahman’s demise is a great loss to the Dibrugarh University and the overall academic field of Assam. It has come to us as a major shock.”

He added that Dr. Rahman was a profound Scholar and Educationist and had contributed a large no. of research papers in various national and international journals. He had founded the Commerce Department in the year 1978.

Hailing from Assam’s Nagaon, Dr. Rahman had also represented India in the World Commerce Conference held in California and received ‘Man of the Year’ award by the American Biographical association.

He also held membership of the all the important bodies of the Dibrugarh University. Prof. Sarma said, “After his retirement from the University, he joined the Nagaland University and served for about 4-5 years.”

Dr. Rahman was known for his charming personality and silent worker. “He never used to speak about himself. He was a silent worker. Everyone in the University was moved by his personality and noble behavior,” said Sarat Sarma.

The Educationist passed away after a heart attack and is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and a large number of friends. Dibrugarh University mourns Dr. Rahman’s demise.
