Gangtok MLA Enters Sikkim Assembly Barefoot as a Mark of Respect

Gangtok, November 4, 2019:

Newly-elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Gangtok, YT Lepcha, entered Assembly barefoot, saying that the assembly is no less than a less than Temple, Church or Monastery. Yepcha also stated he will never wear shoes while attending assembly.

It must be mentioned here that YT Lepcha is a senior BJP leader who has raised a strong voice against corruption, and has sat on dharna multiple times.The BJP leader had even joined Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement, and once, he even walked barefoot for three years protesting corruption. In the year 2016, PM Narendra Modi told him to wear shoes, and then only did he wear shoes.

And in the recently held by poll in capital Gangtok seat, where around 52 percent voting took place on the 21st, BJP candidate YT Lepcha emerged victorious by bagging 2,508 (40.88) percent of the votes.

Lepcha defeated his nearest rival SNPP candidate Delay Namgyal Barfungpa by around 1,010 votes.
