Melbourne, June 13, 2019:

A book titled “Invisible Waves, Visible Changes: Community Radio Movement in Bangladesh” jointly edited by Dr. Ankuran Dutta of Gauhati University and Professor Mohammad Sahid Ullah of Chittagong University was released at Deakin University located in Melbourne, Australia on June 7, 2019.

The book is a compilation of 15 research articles on community radio of Bangladesh, which is published by Guwahati based ARMT South Asia Publications.

The book was internationally launched at the International Conference on Citizen and Community Media by renowned scholars of mass communication of three continents, namely Dr Usha M Rodrigues of Deakin University, renowned Australian communication specialist Russell Anderson, UNESCO Chair Professor of the University of Hyderabad Prof. Vinod Pavarala, Dr Christina Spurgeon of Queensland University of Technology and Dr Emmanuel Munyarukumbuzi of University of Rwanda.

"This is the first book on the community radio of Bangladesh," said Prof. Pavarala at the launch. GU VC Dr. Mridul Hazarika mentioned in a blurb that a country that has countless fascinating stories of change every day cannot ignore the potential as well as the prowess of the invisible waves of Community Radio (CR) that has covered the pockets of the country with its quiet and resolute activities.

"The Book enlightens us the contribution of CR in Bangladesh to support a range of social issues, including migration, human trafficking, disaster mitigation, agriculture and rural development, non-formal education, and gender", said Dr. Sanjaya Mishra, Education Specialist of Commonwealth of Learning, Canada.

One of the editors, Gauhati University Professor Dr. Dutta stated that it took more than five years to compile papers and document the CR movement in Bangladesh.
