ITANAGAR: The body of a 24-year-old girl from Arunachal Pradesh who drowned in the Dikrong river near Doimukh village in the Papum Pare district on August 4 has been recovered in Assam's Pithaguri Nepali Basti under Banderdewa circle.

The body of the 24-year old girl has been fished out from the river at Assam’s Pithaguri Nepali Basti on August 5.

The deceased has been identified as Sinam Baja, was a student of Himalayan University, Itanagar.

The incident took place when Baja along with five others had gone to the river at Khola Camp, Doimukh, to bathe on the evening of August 4.

A day after she was drowned, locals of the Pithaguri Nepali Basti spotted her body around 12 noon, August 5, and informed the police.

Later, the police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel recovered the body.

However, a post mortem was not conducted at the request of the deceased's parents, and the body was handed over to her family members on the strength of a magistrate's order, said DSP (Doimukh) Bomken Basar.
