HAILAKANDI: Assam Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidya inaugurated Sahitya Munishi Upaban (Bio Diversity Park) at Lalacherra here on Saturday in presence of MLA Nizam Uddin Laskar.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Suklabaidya said the bio diversity park has different medicinal plants that are immensely beneficial to health. The Minister said Assam is rich in biodiversity and the government is giving added thrust to it by setting up bio diversity parks across the state.
“The park will attract people and inspire them to conserve biodiversity.” he added.
Suklabaidya underlined the need to make the new generation aware about the importance of protecting the environment in the wake of problems like climate change and global warming.
He said, “The state government has been taking a slew of steps to preserve and protect biodiversity as the bio diversity parks set up in the State are part of it.”
This bio-diversity park is one such 24 bio diversity parks being set up by the Forest Department across 24 districts under the CAMPA scheme.
Six parks have already been set up. Each park covering an area of 2 to 3 hectares will be designed to preserve local medicinal plants and other varieties of flora.
