‘Goodness for goodness’: Mizoram CM lauds people of Bihar for kindness to train passengers

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga along with the whole Mizo community lauded the gesture of the people of Bihar, who provided fruits and prepared food for the Northeast returnees, mostly from Mizoram, near Begusarai.

This came a week after a special train carrying 1,300 people home to four Northeastern States was attacked in Bihar’s Danapur by people wanting to get in.

Videos of local people trooping in and handing out packets and baskets containing food to the passengers were widely circulated on social media by Mizos and other communities in the northeast.

Sharing the video, the Mizoram Chief Minister tweeted, “Few days after stranded Mizos offers their food to flood-affected victims on their way back, a brief halt of their Shramik Special Train at Begusarai, Bihar witnessed good Samaritans offering them food in return! Goodness for goodness. India is beautiful when flooded with love.” (sic)

Zoramthanga referred to another viral video that showed some Mizoram returnees providing food to flood-affected people in western Assam from a moving train. The flood-hit had taken shelter beside the railway track.

It may be mentioned that in an incident took place a few days ago, stones were pelted at a Northeast bound train in Bihar. This was condemned by most of the political parties saying that the incident has proved government’s mismanagement in sending back the stranded migrants.

Moreover, Mizoram has no active COVID-19 case. The state government has extended the lockdown to June 30th, 2020 to mitigate the spread of COVID-19
