GUWAHATI: Biman Bora, the prime accused of Gunjan Sharma kidnapping case of 2013 was shot in a Police firing in Dibrugarh district of Assam in the early hours today.

Police open fire at Bora while he tried to escape from the police custody.

Bora has sustained injuries in the firing that took place in the Kanjikhowa area in Chabua town under Dibrugarh district.

Bora has been admitted at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh (AMCH) for medical treatment.

Police have also recovered a pistol and live ammunition from the spot.

Bora is also accused in many robbery, kidnapping, car lifting cases.

Gunjan Sharma a class 8 student was one of the 11 children kidnapped in a school van in Assam's Simaluguri town in broad daylight in 2013 by some miscreants.

She pleaded with the gunman to take her alone as a hostage and let the others go.

A day after her kidnapping, Gunjan was found near Bihubhor, near the Nagaland border, where she was freed by the gunman.

It may be mentioned that then Chief Minister of Assam late Tarun Gogoi has announced an award of Rs. 2 lakh to Gunjan after she returned home.

Furthermore, residents of Simaluguri demanded that the State government recommend her name for a national bravery award.
