KOKRAJHAR: Promod Bodo, the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), today launched a stinging attack on political rival Hagrama Mohilary, claiming that his brand of politics is on the wane and that he is set for more setbacks during the ensuing polls.

Claiming that Hagrama Mohilary's "magic wand" shall no longer work in the ensuing elections, Boro said that Mohilary is like a "toothless lion" who will pose little to no threat to the rival alliance comprising BJP-AGP-UPPL.

"Even though a lion may lose its teeth, it still wants to strut around like it once did. Hagrama's condition is the same. He is losing the influence and is therefore not a threat," Boro told reporters here.

"There was a time when Hagrama Mohilary wielded immense influence in the region. God gives everyone what he/she wants. When one wants more and more, he/she is likely to Therefore, he could not form the government (in BTC) even after winning 17 Stats. Now his party has 16 MCLAs," Bodo added.

Boro also claimed that since Hagrama's ouster as CEM, he is being deserted by his lackeys. "In the past, he used to campaign in far-flung areas like Dhemaji and Golaghat. Therefore, his politics is no longer relevant."

"There was once a time when people used to enjoy his jokes. However, people have become serious now and there are no takers for his brand of jokes anymore," Promod Boro added.

Boro made his comments a day after Hagrama Mohilary's Bodoland People's Front (BPF) officially joined the Congress-led 'Grand Alliance' to contest polls, setting a target of 70 Seats (which will be enough to form the government).

“We need to win 64 seats to form the government. Since it is unnecessary to win more seats, let’s ensure 70 seats and let the others share the remaining seats. It is at times difficult to manage if we win more than necessary. I am sure we will form government with absolute (actually wanted to mean simple) majority,” Mohilary said addressing the media yesterday in Guwahati.

The other alliance partners include the AIUDF, Anchalik Gana Morcha, CPI, CPI (M) and CPI (M-L).
