Hagrama hopeful of 25-seat win for Mahajath in phase III

KOKRAJHAR: Former Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary today said the Congress-led Mahajath (grand alliance) will win at least 25 of the 40 seats where polling is under way in the third phase Assam elections 2021.

After casting his vote in Kokrajhar East constituency, Mohilary said the voting trend was clearly in favour of the Mahajath.

“It’s a healthy democratic trend that about 90 per cent of voters can be seen coming out to cast their votes. It shows that the trend is in favour of the Mahajath. I am sure, the Mahajath will win 25 out of the 40 seats in this phase,” the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) chief said.

He also said the BPF will win all the eight seats of Bodoland Territorial Region where polling is under way today. “BPF will win all the eight seats, including Tamulpur,” he said. The BPF’s Tamulpur candidate Rangja Khungur Basumatary has announced his retirement from the election after defecting to the BJP on April 1.

Asked about his role in the current election, Mohilary said: “My role is to form the government in BTC after forming the Mahajath government in Dispur.”

Mohilary has been disapproving the BJP-United People’s Party-Liberal executive body in BTC after the BPF, the single largest party to win in the BTC polls, was not asked to form the executive body.

About the Mahajath’s possible chief ministerial candidate and if he would support All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo Badruddin Ajmal as chief minister, he said it would be the alliance’s internal matter which would be decided after May 2. He also dismissed possibility of a deputy chief minister if the alliance comes to power.
