GUWAHATI: The BJP this evening said Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary was labeling baseless charges against the BJP.

Hours after Mohilary accused the BJP of running cattle smuggling and coal and supari (areca nut) syndicates under the patronage of party leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, Rajya Sabha member from Assam Biswajit Daimary, who is a former BPF leader, said: "The BJP made Hagrama and he is now making baseless allegation out of his ego."

“The BPF will be finished after the assembly elections this time,” Daimary said. Assam will go to polls on March 27, April 1 and 6 and the counting has been scheduled for May 2.

Accusing Mohilary of always using the Bodos only as vote bank, Daimary said: “Mohilary did not bring the Bodo Kachari Bill in Assam assembly, nor did he let the chief minister do so. He did not let a single penny, out of a total fund of Rs 1000 crore, go to the Bodo people. Where there is Hagrama, there is only destruction.”

Daimary joined the BJP shortly before the Bodoland Territorial Council elections last year.

Accusing the BJP of running syndicates at the Sreerampore inter-state gate, Mohilary today said in a Congress rally in Tezpur today that his party’s association with the BJP over the past five years was “disgusting”.

“It was not expected of the BJP to be involved in cattle smuggling. They claim to be zero tolerant against corruption, but they were running so many syndicates at Sreerampore gate. I was with them for five years. I know everything. It was disgusting,” Mohilary said.

The rally was attended by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi and Jitendra Singh as well as the entire Congress leadership of the state.

Mohilary also accused BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma of forming an illegal government in BTC by abducting elected representatives, keeping them confined to a hotel in Guwahati and Shillong, taking them to swearing in ceremony closely guarded and keeping them confined till the BJP-UPPL dispensation won the trust vote.

He also said that he will "definitely form the BTC government shortly".
