KOKRAJHAR: Hagrama Mohilary, the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) supremo, today said that he has better chances of becoming the chief minister of Assam than Himanta Biswa Sarma.

"He does not have the luck to become chief minister. Before him, I could become chief minister from the Bodoland People's Front," said Hagrama, going on to claim that there is a tussle between Sarma and Sarbananda Sonowal over the chief minister's post.

Asked about the chief minister's candidate from the grand alliance, Mohilary added, "We are yet to declare a chief minister. We shall only select a candidate after the election results are out."

Earlier today, Mohilary announced the names of the 8 more candidates who will be contesting the forthcoming elections.

"In Gossaigaon, party leader Rajendranath Narzary will contest the polls. In Kokrajhar West, we will Rabiram Narzary. In Kokrajhar East, Pramila Rani Brahma will contest. In Sidli, Chandan Brahma will contest from the party. Sitting MLA Kamal Sing Narzary will contest in Bijni. Ram Das Basumatary will contest from Tamulpur. From Barama, we will field Prabin Boro. In Sapaguri, Ramdas Basumatary will contest," Mohilary said.

Hagrama's BPF has entered the grand alliance or ‘Mahajath’ that comprises the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI (M), the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) Liberation or CPI(ML), and the Anchalik Gana Marcha (AGM).

Meanwhile, the BJP in Assam has said it will decide on the chief ministerial candidate only after the results of the state election are out on May 2.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will contest the assembly election from Majauli seat.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, widely known as 'Chanakya of the north-east', will contest from Jalukbari, a seat that he currently holds.
