Hagrama Mohilary speaks on pre-poll alliances; Here’s what he said
GUWAHATI: Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) supremo Hagrama Mohilary yesterday informed that his party is looking forward to forging alliances with anti-BJP allies to thwart its former ally in the ensuing elections in the state.
“Not only the Congress — we will help all the parties who will help us during the ensuing polls. We are appealing all the political powers — be it the ‘Raijor Dal’, AJP, AIUDF, or Congress — to not field candidates in the 12 Constituencies in the BTC. If that is the case, we will help the parties in 28 Constituencies outside the BTC where we hold sway,” he said.
“As per the top leaders such as Himanta Biswa Sarma and Ranjeet Dass, the AGP-BJP-UPPL will contest the polls in an alliance. Therefore, we will have to chart out another course for the BJP. Therefore, we have held discussions with both the ‘Grand Alliance’ comprising the Congress-AIUDF combine and also the regional powers headed by the AJP and Raijor Dal.”
A 12-member core committee of the BPF party will decide which faction to support ahead of the polls, Hagrama Mohilary further asserted.
“On this day and date, we cannot proclaim that we are with one side or the other. However, we are holding discussions with all the anti-BJP forces in the state,” Mohilary said, exuding confidence that
Mohilary further asserted that his party would announce its allies for the ensuing polls “within the next few days.”
Meanwhile, the Congress party has also welcomed the possibility of forging an alliance with Hagrama’s BPF in the polls.
Nagaon Congress MP, Pradyot Bordoloi, today welcoming the possibility of an alliance with the BTC-based party, said that despite Hagrama’s ouster as CEM, he remains a “relevant” political factor in the polls.
