TAMULPUR: Promod Boro, the newly-elected Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) today said that his rival Hagrama Mohilary has approached the Court as a "time-buying exercise" as he is "afraid that the end of his political career is near."

Asked about Hagrama's challenging of the Boro-led Council that came into being after the UPPL-BJP-GSP, he said, "The Floor Test was conducted as per the directions of the Gauhati High Court. He (Hagrama) is doing this as a time-buying exercise for his fears that the end of his politics is nigh. Nobody is going to benefit from this."

It needs mention here that Pramod Boro won the composite floor test of the Bodo Territorial Council on Thursday. The former students' leader got 22 votes and was, therefore, able to hang onto the post of CEM. Earlier, Hagrama had urged the regional parties to "vote against national parties."

All members of BJP, UPPL, and GSP voted in favour of Boro with a show of hands. However, the Mohilary led Bodo People's Front (BPF) did not accept this Floor test.

The Gauhati High Court ordered a composite Floor Test by December 26 following a petition by BPF chief Mohilary. The petition heard on December 18, alleged that the election of the CEM violated constitutional provisions.

Hagrama has resolved to challenge the decision yet again and has vowed to take the matter to higher Courts in the future. The 3-time former CEM said that the floor test in the Secretariat was not conducted as per the High Court's instructions and therefore, it does not count.
