Amritsar-based Shahjada Export Limited had brought the consignment of five kg tea in return for above Rs 65,000.

The Shahjada exports are a renowned exporter of tea and have links in markets of Europe and Gulf countries.

After being plucked by hand or machine, the tea leaves are transported to the factory, where the manufacturing process begins.

In the case of hand-rolled tea, the plucked leaves are taken to the factory, but none of the above processes are carried out. To allow it to wither, the leaves are spread out in a thin layer.

Teas are made by rolling each leaf and bud, or two leaves and a bud, gently in the palms of their hands.

Sumedha Das, the owner of Neermahal Tea, explained that they first sent a sample of the hand-rolled tea to the exporters, who expressed an interest in purchasing it.

“This is the highest price that Tripura tea has ever fetched. Earlier, the price touched the limit of ten thousand but this time it has reached Rs 12,500”, Sumedha said.
