Heavy Rainfall Claims 73 Lives in Uttar Pradesh, Rescue Teams Deployed in Bihar

Heavy rainfall has claimed as many as 73 lives in Uttar Pradesh while the National Disaster Response Force has deployed 18 teams to aid people in Bihar, where a flood-like situation has emerged.

Following heavy downpour, life in several areas of Uttar Pradesh has come to a standstill. The eastern parts of the state are the worst-hit, as per reports. Rain-related incidents have claimed lives of 73 people in UP.

Schools in Lucknow, Amethi, Hardoi and a few others remained closed on Friday and Saturday. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates to adopt all measures and extend immediate relief to those affected. Financial aid of Rs 4 lakh was also announced for the family members of those killed.

As per weather department, Uttar Pradesh will receive ‘very heavy rainfall’ in the next two days.

In Bihar, around 13 trains were cancelled this morning following heavy rain. Trains were also reported to be delayed along several routes in the state. The weather department has cautioned ‘heavy rainfall’ till Monday.

Schools will also remain closed till September 1. Around 18 rescue teams have been deployed in some districts of Bihar.

It is to be mentioned that heavy rainfall has been reported in Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Several people have been affected in the last four-five days.
