Heavy storm causes extensive damage in Assam

Assam was lashed by a heavy storm late on Sunday night. The storm was also accompanied by heavy rain which caused destruction across Assam, and especially in Upper Assam areas.

As per reports, more than a hundred houses were damaged in the storm.

In Tinsukia's Moran, a 200-year-old 'bombax ceiba' tree was uprooted and blocked the road.

Reports claims that the storm has caused damage to both life and property. Reports claim that many people were injured in the destruction caused by the storm.

It may be mentioned that more rain and storms are expected to hit the Northeast region in the aftermath of the Cyclone Fani. Electricity blackout was also reported in many areas of the State.

Eastern India (including the Northeastern states) has been suffering from a spate of bad weather and ever since Fani, periodic rains accompanied by storms have been affecting the region.

Fani, which was the biggest cyclonic storm since 2013, claimed as many as 30 lives. The India Meteorological Department said the "extremely severe" cyclone in the Bay of Bengal hit the coastal state of Odisha, with weather impacted across the Asian subcontinent.
