Assam: 45 high schools soon to upgrade to higher secondary schools

GUWAHATI: As many as 45 high schools across Assam will be upgraded to higher secondary schools soon, said State Education minister Ranoj Pegu on Wednesday.

The Assam government has put some conditions to be fulfilled by high schools to be upgraded to higher secondary schools.

1. There should not be any amalgamation proposal

2. There should be a minimum of two additional classrooms available.

3. There must be a minimum of four members of Graduate teachers having Post Graduate degrees in a minimum of four core subjects.

4. There shall not be any new post creation.

5. No financial grants shall be given to the upgraded schools immediately.

6. The schools must give an undertaking that they will run the higher secondary classes with existing qualified faculty having Post Graduate.

Among the 45 high schools that will be upgraded to higher secondary are --five schools in Chirang, five in Sonitpur, three in Golaghat, three in Udalguri, two in Darrang, two in Dibrugarh, two in Goalpara, two in Dhubri, two in Morigaon, two in Barpeta and one each in Biswanath, Cachar, Hailakandi, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Sivasagar and Tinsukia districts.
