Hima-led side clinches gold in 4x400m relay

India’s new-found track and field sensation Hima Das of Assam clinched the gold medal in Women's 4x400m relay at the Asian Games 2018 being held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Faced among others against the formidable Bahrain side, the Hima-led Indian team put up a sterling performance. Her teammates were Machettira Poovamma, Saritaben Laxmanbhai Gayakwad and Velluva Koroth Vismaya.

This is Hima’s third medal in the Games. Earlier, she had won silver medals in Women’s 400m and mixed relay event’s 4x400m. In fact, she could have one more medal had she not been disqualified from the 200m semifinals.

The performance of the village girl made the people of Assam to bask in her glory. It may be mentioned that this is for the first time that the 18-year old from Nagaon district participated in the gala event.
