Himanta Biswa on COVID-19 3rd Wave: ‘Children below 18 more likely to be infected’

DHEMAJI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today opining on alert over the inevitable third wave of the COVID-19 opined that those below 18 years of age stand a greater chance of being infected owing to the fact that they have not taken vaccines.

“When the first wave came, things became better and people stopped heeding the rules which caused the second wave. The second wave is nearing its end and people will soon head to offices. One person will get infected and then there will another surge of cases. The older ones will not be affected as much as they have taken vaccines. Obviously, the below-18 minors will be affected,” Sarma told media persons in Dhemaji.

Sarma opined that the third wave will take shape from the way people conduct themselves.
“On a positive note., however, children have high immunity. Children below the age of 18 do not have co-morbidities,” he said, adding that children have a better chance of recovering from fibrosis of the lungs.
