DADARA (KAMRUP): Even as the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is still expecting to retain its alliance with the BJP in the state assembly elections, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma today unofficially announced the BJP’s alliance with the United People’s party-Liberal (UPPL).

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of foundation laying of the Amingaon Science Centre and Planetarium at Pachim Dadara in Kamrup district, Sarma said: “I did not know cycling. But, I have done cycling more than 300 km over the past few days. Now, I seek your blessings so that the BJP-AGP-UPPL can form the government again and continue with the progress journey of the state.”

The incumbent government in the state has been an alliance of BJP, Asom gana Parishad and BPF. The Sarbananda Sonowal council of ministers has three BPF members – Pramila Rani Brahma, Rihan Daimary and Chandan Brahma -- as minister. The BJP, however, ditched the BPF to ally with the UPPL to form the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) last year.

The BJP is yet to officially announce an alliance with UPPL for the state elections due in April-May.

Laying the foundation of the Rs 25-crore estimated budget science centre and planetarium here along with state science and technology minister Keshav Mahanta, Sarma said the government was planning to build a new road along the Brahmaputra bank from Agyathuri to Sualkuchi.

Claiming that the Kamrup deputy commissioner’s office at Amingoan, that falls under his Jalukbari constituency, is the most beautiful district administration office in the country, the state minister said the government would also like to build a new indoor stadium here or in adjoining villages so that national level sports events could be held there.

“A huge stadium is coming up at Sualkuchi and another at North Guwahati. Now, my wish is to build a big indoor stadium at Dadara, Pacharia, Bongshar or Singimari. I appeal to the village panchayats of this area to show us a plot of land so that we can build the indoor stadium,” the minister announced. He also inaugurated two auditoria at Bongshar and Pacharia earlier in the day.

The entire area comes under his constituency, Jalukbari.
