Himanta Biswa Sarma: Politicians will never be allowed to fill Govt posts in BTC if BJP wins election
KOKRAJHAR: Assam Finance, Health, and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, announcing the election manifesto for the forthcoming polls in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls, today stated that politics
Sarma stated that if the BJP party wins the forthcoming elections. the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) treaty shall be implemented. “Both inclusion of exclusion of villages from the region shall be done once we assume charge,” said Sarma.
The Minister also stated that the a merit-based system will be introduced for the appointment to Government posts and the respective departments will be responsible for conducting exams to fill up vacancies. “Moreover, we shall be reserving 10% of the Government posts for economically backward people,” Sarma said.
“The buying and selling of land,” Sarma said, “will be done within a single month if the BJP comes to power.” He also said that the alleged atrocities against the Gorkha community will be ended.
If BJP wins the Council election, the Minister said, probes will be carried out into each political assassination in the region, and the death of local leader Lafikul Ali will be properly probed. Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced that the controversial VCDCs will be abolished and an alternate Panchayati system — under the control of the local administration — will take its stead
Biswa Sarma also stated that the BJP has ventured into politics in the Bodo-dominated area to salvage the people. “We are here for the people. There have been a lot of injustices in this region. Govenment posts are filled based on the names carried in a list carried in the Chief’s pocket. Why will students study in the Universities?”
Himanta Biswa Sarma further alleged that the Ministers and MPs have to think twice before visiting the BTC because of Hagrama’s iron-fisted rule. “They had made such an environment that it felt that the four districts are outside the jurisdiction of Assam. Every penny spent here, in the BTC, belongs to Assam. The mindset is such that BTC is outside Assam.”
Exuding confidence about forming the next BTC administration, Sarma stated that the BJP will be able to win at least 22 out of the 27 Seats that it is contesting in. “However, it will not be considered a major upset if we manage to win each of the 27 Seats that we will be contesting in.”
It needs mention here that the BJP party was recently bolstered by the joining of former Bodoland People’s Front Working
The BTC elections will be held in two phases on December 7 and 10. Counting of votes will be held on December 12.
