CHIRANG: Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that he is all set to expose the link between Bodoland People's Front (BPF) supremo Hagrama Mohilary and insurgent M Batha.

"In the reply, you will find out how Hagrama is connected to Batha. What kind of proof is there. Why the Assam government has given recommendation to transfer the case to the National Investigation Agency," he said on the sidelines of an election rally here in support of the United People's Party Liberal's (UPPL) Jayanta Basumatary.

"The driver who drove the vehicle filled with arms was constantly on the line with Hagrama. We have the WhatsApp records of that person. I will submit the report to the Election Commission with documents. The Assam police has already given the report before the election. Before the Hagrama-AIUDF alliance, we had dashed off a letter to the Assam police recommending them to transfer the case to the NIA since it involved a political leader," he said.

Earlier, the Election Commission has issued a show-cause notice to senior BJP leader and a minister in poll-bound Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly threatening to have Hagrama Mohilary of the Bodoland People’s Front jailed. The BJP bigwig was asked to respond to it by 5 pm on April 2.

The opposition Congress had complained to the poll panel, alleging that Sarma had threatened to send Mohilary to jail by “misusing” the NIA.

The notice to Sarma cited various provisions of the model code of conduct, including the one dealing with refraining from making unverified allegations against political rivals.

“…the Commission is, prima facie, of the view that that Sarma has violated the above said provisions of the Model Code of Conduct,” the notice read.

Yesterday, after the notice was issued, Biswa Sarma tweeted out that his "formal response" will unveil some startling facts on the issue.

With the ball entirely in the minister's court, the entire state is waiting with bated breath to find out what the minister -- who has been questioned by the opposition over his alleged 'threats' -- have up his sleeve.
