GUWAHATI: Ahead of the ensuing polls in Assam, state's finance, health, and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that he "regrets" the 22 years that he spent as a Congressman.

Releasing a book by Union Home Minister Amit Shah here today, Sarma said, "I was with congress for 22 years and after working with Amit Shah, I realized how have I lost my those years. I want them back."

"How was this possible for BJP to do development in NE, how did we win Tripura, Assam, Who think BJP isn’t a secular party, how did we work in Nagaland and other parts where there are Christians and other communities. This book would be a living Dalil," Sarma declared.

Stating that nobody apart from Shah could have made him understand how it feels "to work for the nation", Sarma added that Shah "doesn’t compromise when it comes to nationalism."

It’s extremely praiseworthy."
