Himanta Biswa Sarma says Assam –Mizoram needs time to heal after ‘heavy engagement’.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said both the states of Assam and Mizoram need time to 'heal all the pain'.

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said both the states of Assam and Mizoram need time to 'heal all the pain'.

Referring to the recent bloodied clash between the two states that left 7 died, Sarma in New Delhi said, “With Mizoram, you need a span of peace because after such a heavy engagement you need some time to heal all the pain. After that, you need to start some confidence-building measures from both sides and then talk about some final resolutions.”

The Chief Minister said that he and his Mizoram counterpart have issued a joint statement and have been successful in bringing some kind of peace for now.

"I think both the governments are now talking and definitely, both sides will work for peace and tranquility. If we keep talking about problems, we won't find any solutions ", he added.

Speaking about the border issues with neighbouring state Meghalaya, Sarma said that the issues would be resolved in a phased manner.

The Chief Minister called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday in the national capital. During the meeting, he apprised them about various issues including the border disputes with Mizoram.
