Himanta Biswa Sarma sworn-in as 15th Assam CM; 13 other ministers take oath

GUWAHATI: North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as the 15th chief minister of Assam today.

Sarma, along with 13 other ministers was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra here.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda was present at the oath-taking ceremony.

Five chief ministers of northeastern states, along with other senior National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Senior BJP leader Chandra Mohan Patowary and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) working president Keshab Mahanta took oath as cabinet ministers in the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led state government.

Senior BJP leader Parimal Suklabaidya, BJP state president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and AGP president Atul Bora also took oath as cabinet ministers.

BJP MLAs Pijush Hazarika, Ajanta Neog, Ranoj Pegu, Sanjay Kishan, Jogen Mohan, Bimal Bora and Ashok Singhal also took oath as cabinet ministers.

On the other hand, United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) MLA Urkhao Gwra Brahma took oath as a cabinet minister.

The cabinet took oath in four different languages.

While chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath in Assamese, Ashok Singhal took oath in English, Parimal Suklabaidya in Bengali and Urkhao Gwra Brahma in Bodo.
