Guwahati, August 22, 2019:

Assam's Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP stalwart and his bete noire, the peasant leader Akhil Gogoi, are on the warpath yet again. The Finance Minister, who had visited a local Court in Guwahati on Thursday to settle some old cases, trained his guns on his old foe, Gogoi, yet again.

Drawing a proverbial sword at his long time foe, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "A certain individual who goes by the name of Akhil Gogoi, from 2008-2011, had at various times, organized press meets to make numerous accusations against me."

"I had filed many cases against him, and the hearings are drawing closer. One of the cases was against his allegation that I had bought a car through dishonest and corrupt means. Gogoi denied ever having said that, but a journalist from a regional newspaper was sentenced to jail. 6-7 cases of the cases I had registered against him are still going on.."

Mocking some sections of the media for falling prey to Gogoi's alleged theatrics, the Minister said that Gogoi has 'insulted' the Press by denying making some statements, which had been carried by the Press.

Reacting to Himanta Biswa Sarma's statements, Akhil said that the Minister has made the statements in violation of the Court's verdict, and urging that a suo moto case be registered against Himanta. He further added that he had been found innocent in a case which had been registered against him in 2011.

"We all know he is corrupt, he is involved in all the major scams in Assam", he said, adding that he stands by all the allegations of corruption that he has made against the Court.
