Uploading pictures of his visits on social media, the minister captioned them, "Took blessings at Maa Kamakhya temple and Doul Govinda temple before my journey to file nomination for Jalukbari LAC. Please join and support me for a new Assam."

Earlier in the day, the Minister sought the people's blessings before heading out to file his nomination.

"Jalukbari has always been kind & generous to me. As I get ready to file my nomination once more from this constituency today, I take a bow in gratitude and seek people’s blessings," he said.

It needs mention here that Jalukbari constituency has been the fortress of senior BJP leader and NEDA convener, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, since 2001.

Sarma, who contested for the first time on a Congress ticket in 1996 got 29,318 votes but lost out to Asom Gana Parishad stalwart Brighu Kumar Phukan who polled 46,446 votes.

In 2001, Himanta Biswa Sarma made a comeback and defeated Phukan with around 10,000 votes. Sarma has retained the seat since then for four consecutive terms.

Sarma won the seat for the fourth time in 2016 on a BJP ticket and received 118,390 votes. This magical rise in vote share is due to his connection with the voters of the Jalukbari constituency.
