Home isolation major cause of sudden increase in COVID related deaths: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Health & Family Welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that home isolation of COVID-19 patients is the major cause for the sudden rise in the number of coronavirus related deaths in the state. Sarma added that the government has till now not allowed home isolation.

Sarma informed that around 1600 doctors and health workers across the state have been tested COVID-19 positive . The minister once again appealed the people not to celebrate Durga Puja this year. Sarma further said that the requirement of oxygen at hospitals has increased as most of the patients suffer from low oxygen. To serve this purpose, two oxygen tanks have also been installed at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).

Meanwhile, COVID-19 situation in the state maintained its menacing nature. 1292 people were infected by the contagion in the last 24 hours out of 15515 tests conducted. Kamrup Metro accounted for most of these cases, followed by Jorhat and Lakhimpur. Another 16 people succumbed to COVID-19 today in the state
