Home Ministry issues notice to Rahul Gandhi to provide “factual position” of his citizenship

New Delhi, April 30, 2019:

The Union Home Ministry on Monday issued a notice to Congress president Rahul Gandhi to provide factual information after receiving a complaint lodged by Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy who claims his citizenship as British.

In the notice issued by the ministry, Rahul Gandhi has been asked to respond within a fortnight.

Just ahead of the elections, Subramanian Swamy had raised the complaint that the Congress president has four passports in which one was registered as 'Raul Vinci'.

In the notice, in its stated that Rahul was one of the directors and secretary of a company that was registered in the UK in 2003. The address of the company was 51 Southgate Street, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 9EH. It further asked Rahul to explain his “factual position” in the matter as his date of birth was given as 19/06/1970 and declared his nationality as British in the company’s annual returns filed on 10/10/2005 and 31/10/2006.

The Ministry further sought an explanation from Rahul as to why his nationality has been mentioned as British during the dissolution of the company.
