GUWAHATI: The results of the Higher Secondary (HS) final year and High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations will be declared by July 31, 2021, said Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu.

Talking to the media, minister Pegu said that the state education department has been preparing the results to be declared by July 31.

The results will be announced in accordance with the state government's different assessment methods.

Considering the COVID situation in the state, on June 18 the Assam government cancelled the exams

According to the government's different assessment methods, the students’ performance in previous tests and other teaching-learning activities will be used to calculate results this year.

However, the Assam government had previously withdrew clause 5 in the assessment formula for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary (HS) examination procedures due to considerable criticism and anger among students and their parents.

What did the Government's clause 5 in the assessment formula said?

Clause 5 states that mark sheets and certificates prepared according to the evaluation formulae will not be accepted by students who wish to become teachers by taking the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) or other government jobs where marks from HSLC and HS exams are used to assess their merits in the future.

These students will get a chance to appear for an optional exam that will be conducted in

September 2021 if the situation improves in order to receive mark sheets that will be recognized in future TET and other examinations.

But if the test is unable to take place in September this year because of the COVID-19 epidemic, it will be held on a date in 2022.

Worth mentioning is that after announcing that the SEBA and AHSEC will conduct board examinations in mid-July, the Assam government on June 18 declared to scrap the exams and minister Pegu announced the formation of two committees to create evaluation criteria, with results declared by July 31.
