KOKRAJHAR:  A huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) region's Kokrajhar today ahead of the Assembly polls in Assam.

The seized cache -- including two AK-46 series rifles, two magazines, one revolver -- was recovered from the Dighlipara area of Bismuri in the district.

"Kudos to

" data-focusable="true">@KokrajharPolice for recovering 2 more AK Rifles and 1 revolver from Bismuri area under Kokrajhar PS. We continue furthering our resolve to defeat the designs of anti-National elements. We remain committed to ensuring peace and prosperity across the State," Assam police tweeted from its official handle after making the recovery.

"The recovered weapons belong to some former extremists," speculated Superintendent of Police Dr. L. R. Baishya, addressing media.

Baishya during his address further stated that a 30-member team led by NDFB's top leader Batha returned to the jungle again.

Batha and his team are also said to have sophisticated weapons with them, he said.

Legal action regarding this will be taken soon, said the SP, adding that all possible measures will be taken to ensure the peaceful conduct of Assembly elections.

It needs mention here that in spite of the signing of the historic BTR Accord, the Kokrajhar police have been continuously recovering weapons in the district. As many as 80 arms have been recovered by the Kokrajhar police to date.
