GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today came down heavily on Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal for his government trying to dominate democratic agitations with an iron hand.

Reminding Sonowal that he was in the AASU before becoming the chief minister and that he was elected president of AASU at Tezpur, AASU general secretary Shankar Jyoti Baruah today said it was unbecoming on the part of his government to use force on AASU activists when they were taking out a torch rally at Tezpur last week.

Several students were injured when police baton charged students at Tezpur on Friday evening.

“He should remember that he was an AASU activist and he used the AASU plank to join politics and become chief minister. It seems he is addicted to the hunger for power. But, his attitude to the platform that gained him name and fame is being observed by the people of the state and they will give their answer in the elections,” Baruah said.

He also took exception of Sonowal and his ministers trying to tarnish the image of the AASU in every political platform they could cease an opportunity.
