Hustle begins for Congress Tickets ahead of Lok Sabha elections

Guwahati, February 27, 2019:

The race for Lok Sabha tickets is heating up in the state of Assam before the grand finale of the Lok Sabha elections which are expected to be conducted in April-May.

With both Congress President Rahul Gandhi and BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi blowing the poll bugle in the state to launch the election campaigns, the fever of elections that usually grips the people of the state is palpable and so is the rush to secure the elusive seats. It is a well-known fact that the internal politics play a large role in who wins the tickets of the Congress party and this year too, the situation is not expected to be any different.

Among the 14 Lok Sabha Constituency hopefuls, more than 100 candidates are seeking tickets from the Indian National Congress. The following is the list of candidates and the constituencies they are expected to contest.

Karimganj: Lalit Mohan Shuklabaidya, Nabadip Das, Renu Bhushan Roy; and Achyut Baidya.

Silchar: Sushmita Dev (sole Congress contender).

Karbi Anglong: Biren Singh Engti, and Khar Singh Engti.

Dhubri: Dr. Matiul Rahman Mandal, Abdul Hamid, Wajid Ali Chaudhury, Gol Akhtar Begam, and Siddiki Ahmed.

Kokrajhar: Durga Das Bodo, Rajendra Mosahary, Sabdaram Rabha, and Jaman Singh Brahma.

Barpeta: Abdul Rouf, Abdul Khalik,Sehnaz Yasmin Hauk,Dr. Manjushree Pathak,Serman Ali Ahmed, Sankar Prasad Roy, Dulu Ahmed, and Abdur Rahi Khan.

Guwahati: Sailen Bora, Babita Sharma , Ranjan Bora, Hiranya Bora, Manash Bora, and Ramen Barthakur.

Mangaldai: Hemaprabha Devi, Dipankar Sahariya, Rupa Rani Bhuyan , Madhab Rajbonshi, and Jul Nath Sharma.

Tezpur: Dilip Kumar Baruah, Bhaskar Dehal, Abhijit Hazarika, M.G.V.K. Bhanu, and Santosh Konwar

Kaliabar: Gaurav Gogoi (sole contendor).

Nagaon: Pradyut Bordoloi, Bishnu Prasad, Durlabh Sharma, and Bibhuti Bhusan Borthakur.

Lakhimpur: Sailen Sonowal, Bolin Kuli, Joy Prakash Das, Harish Sonowal, Yogesh Chandra Pegu

Dibrugarh: Pawan singh Ghatowar, Raju Sahu, Manoj Dhanowar, and Rupesh Gowalai.
