IAF C-17 Evacuates 58 Indians from Coronavirus-Hit Iran

New Delhi, March 10, 2020:

The Indian Air Force (IAF), in its second attempt of evacuation, has returned with 58 Indians from Coronavirus-hit Iran on its C-17 Globemaster aircraft on Tuesday.

The aircraft returned from Iran to Hindan airbase with 58 Indian pilgrims onboard and carried 529 samples for investigation. All of them will be quarantined at Hindan, informed the IAF.

According to reports, of the 58 Indians, 31 were women, 25 were men and there were two children. The C-17 Globemaster military aircraft departed from the Hindan airbase around 8 pm on Monday.

External Affairs Minister, Dr. S Jaishankar took to Twitter and said, “First batch of 58 Indian pilgrims being brought back from

. IAF C-17 taken off from Tehran and expected to land soon in Hindon.”

It may be mentioned here that around 2,000 Indians are living in Iran, which has witnessed increasing numbers of coronavirus cases in the last few days. According to latest reports, 237 people died of the coronavirus infection in Iran while the number of positive cases stood at around 7,000.

Earlier, on February 27, 76 Indians and 36 foreign nationals were brought back from the Chinese city of Wuhan by the aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
