Giving no heed to the lockdown rules to fight against the coronavirus that has claimed over 3000 lives across the country, people in Kachua in Assam’s Nagaon district were seen defying the lockdown rules today morning.

Despite the government and the health experts’ repeated appeals to maintain social distancing and use face masks, people thronged the Kachua market in Nagaon without abiding by the guidelines laid by the Health Ministry.

Making face masks compulsory, the state government empowered the Assam police to impose a fine of Rs 500 on those not covering face either with masks or with Gamosa (a traditional Assamese rectangular cloth with red borders, home-made cover or handkerchief.

Health experts say that there is no alternative to contain the spread of the coronavirus than to wear face masks and maintaining social distancing.

It may be mentioned that the Central government has enforced the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 which has infected nearly 1 lakh people and claimed over 3000 lives in the country so far.

Meanwhile, Assam has witnessed a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases. The virus has infected 102 in the state and claimed three lives so far. Of 102, 55 are active cases and 41 have been cured/ discharged.

On the other hand, the virus has infected nearly 1 lakh people and claimed over 3000 lives across the nation. With this, India has surpassed the China's official figure of 82,933 confirmed positive cases.
