NEW DELHI: The government panel National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) today recommended increasing the gap between two doses of the Covishield vaccine to 12-16 weeks.

The panel also suggested that pregnant women will be given a choice of receiving either COVID-19 vaccine and that lactating women be vaccinated at any time after delivery.

The NTAGI  further stated that those testing positive for COVID-19 should delay COVID-19 vaccination for six months after recovery.

The NTAGI's recommendations for COVID-19 will be sent to the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration following a recent meeting of the council (NEGVAC).

The time between two Covishield doses is currently four to eight weeks.

The panel, however, did not state any change in the dosage interval for Covaxin.

Covishield dosage intervals have been widened for the second time in three months. States and UTs were advised earlier this month to raise the gap from 28 days to six to eight weeks for better results.
