Narzary has these days been attending training for counting instead of his football training.

Halicharan Narzary , who has been representing the India team for five years now and is now very busy in training, was shocked to find himself in charge of the May 2 vote counting because he knows no rules and regulations about the counting of votes.

Speaking to the media, the star football player said: "I have recently returned home after a World Cup qualifying match in Dubai, and I am shocked to see my name is in the list of May 2 vote counting. "

Sports enthusiasts, as well as sports organisers, have urged to remove him as the official of the counting process.

Since the player is so busy training and every moment is very valuable to him, the administration's decision raises questions in everyone's mind, " How irresponsible is it to ask one of the country's most responsible players to count votes!" exclaimed one of the football organisers here.

"These are the same set of irresponsible people who will boo the national team when it fails to deliver. They'll then forget what they did with the players at the time of their practice and training. These administrators are the same people who use playfields for all sorts of unsporting activities. How'll sports grow in this country?" said another sports organiser wishing anonymity.

The polls for the Assam assembly elections were held in three phases on March 27, April 1, and 6.

The right-footer midfielder is employed with Accountant General's Office here as an accountant in sports quota.

Although his office appealed to the Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner to exempt the player in the interest of the nation, he refused to oblige, his office colleagues alleged.
