NEW DELHI: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, an experienced India seamer, received the ICC Player of the Month award on Tuesday for his outstanding performance in the limited-over series against England in March.

The 31-year-old paceman took six wickets at a 4.65 economy rate in the three ODIs and four wickets at a fantastic economy rate of 6.38 in the five T20Is to emerge as the white ball series' standout bowler on both sides.

“I was ecstatic to be playing for India again after what felt like an eternity. I used the time off to improve my health and ability, and I'm glad to be back in the middle of the action for my country,” Kumar said in an ICC press release.

In the men's group, Kumar was nominated alongside Afghanistan's ace leg-spinner Rashid Khan and Zimbabwe's Sean Williams.

Former India batsman VVS Laxman said, “Bhuvi was out of international cricket for nearly a year and a half due to a series of unrelated injuries but you'd never guess.”

Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Punam Raut, an Indian tandem, were also among the women's nominees.
