India records 2.61 lakh new COVID-19 positive cases; 1501 dead in 24 hours

NEW DELHI: India experienced the highest-ever single day rise in COVID-19 cases, with over 2.61 lakh new cases and over 1,500 deaths recorded in the lastr 24 hours, according to the Union health minister Harsh Vardhan.

In the last 24 hours, 1,501 COVID-related deaths have been confirmed in the country, bringing the total number of COVID-related deaths to 1,77,150. In the last 24 hours, 2,61,500 new COVID-19 cases have been identified in India.

The total number of cases has now gone up to 1,47,88,109. The total number of active cases in the country is 18,01,316.

1,38,423 people have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 1,28,09,643.

On Saturday, 15,66,394 samples were examined, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research. And, as of April 17, a total of 26,65,38,416 samples have been tested across the world.

In the meantime, the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country to date is 12,26,22,590.
