NEW DELHI: India reported 53,256 new cases in the last 24 hours and the lowest number in 88 days bringing the total COVID tally to 2,99,35,221, according to the union health ministry.
For the sixteenth day in a row, India’s daily COVID count has stayed below 1 lakh.
There have been 2,88,44,199 total recoveries so far.
The total number of active COVID-19 cases in the country has now fallen to 7,02,887.
The death toll rose to 3,88,135 with 1,422 new deaths, the lowest in 65 days.

With the second wave’s peak behind us, about 90 percent of the approximately 650 districts for which data is available are now in a downward slide.
The only significant state where active cases have grown in the recent week is West Bengal. The other two states, Manipur and Mizoram have experienced an increase in active cases, but the total number is still far under 1,000 in both.
