India records less than 60,000 new COVID-19 cases, 1,576 deaths

NEW DELHI: India registered less than 60,000 new coronavirus infections after 81 days, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 2,98,81,965 with active cases falling to 7,29,243, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.

This is the lowest spike in new cases in over two months.

In a single day, 58,419 new cases were reported. With 1,576 new deaths, the death toll rose to 3,86,713, the lowest in 63 days.

The number of active cases decreased to 7,29,243 accounting for 2.44 percent of all infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate increased to 96.27 percent.

The COVID-19 caseload has decreased by 30,776 cases, in the last 24 hours.

A total of 18,11,446 tests were administered on Saturday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted in the country to 39,10,19,083.

The daily positive rate was 3.22 percent on average. According to the ministry, it has been less than 5 percent for 13 days in a row and the weekly positive rate has dropped to 3.43 percent.
