India records massive spike in single-day with 19,459 new COVID-19 cases

India recorded 19,459 COVID-19 cases and 380 deaths on Monday. The country's tally continues to rise, with the total cases reaching 5.5 lakh and death toll crossing 16,300. The Health Ministry issued a revised clinical management protocol for managing Covid-19 cases. The ICMR said that 83,98,362 samples were tested up to June 28, and 1,70,560 samples were tested on June 28 alone.

The death toll is now 16475, as per data released by the Union Health Ministry. Active cases in India stand at 210120 while 321723 have been cured or discharged so far.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 6 thousand deaths. It has recorded 164626 corona cases with 86575 cured, 7429 deaths, and 70622 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 83077 cases with 52607 cured, 2623 deaths, and 27847 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 82275 positive cases with 45537 cured, 1079 deaths 35659 active cases. Gujarat with 31320 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 22800 have been cured, 1808 deaths, and 6712 active cases.

Meanwhile, Haryana announced to start plasma therapy for treatment of COVID-19 patients in all its medical colleges after approval from ICMR while Maharashtra Government extended lockdown in the state till July 31st, 2020. In Northeast India, Assam enforced complete lockdown in Guwahati for 14 days with effected from June 28th, 2020 midnight while weekend lockdown in town and municipal areas.

Andhra Pradesh reports 793 new cases and 11 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases rise to 13891 including 7479 active cases, 6232 discharged cases and 180 deaths: State Covid-19 nodal officer.

The global COVID-19 tally crossed 10 million, while the death toll crossed 500,000.
