India records the highest daily tally in the world with 78,761 new Covid-19 cases

India today set a new record virus with 78,761 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, according to the health ministry. The country has passed the United States with the world's highest single-day rise.

With 948 new deaths, the total tally rises to 63,498. India is the third worst-hit country by the coronavirus pandemic after the United States and Brazil. India has been recording the highest single-day surge in fresh COVID cases since August 4. The current data comes after the government announced guidelines for Unlock 4.0, allowing social, political, and religious events as well as restarting metro services from September 7.

Meanwhile, Assam Hill Areas Development Minister Sum Ronghang became the first minister of the BJP-led state government to contract Covid-19, even as three more saffron party MLAs tested positive, officials said on Saturday.

The Assam government announced on Saturday that it is going to withdraw some of the non- chargeable services offered to COVID-19 patients.

The Chief Secretary of Assam Kumar Sanjay Krishna on Saturday, 29th of August informed that the state government will be taking strict actions from Monday onwards against people not following COVID-19 protocols such as; wearing masks or face coverings at a public place, follow social distancing.
